Rashid Shaheed Re-Signs With Seattle Seahawks

A week ago, it looked like Rashid Shaheed was gone. The whispers were loud. ESPN’s Adam Schefter dropped the bombshell on March 4 that the two sides were “said to not be close to an extension,” and even Seahawks GM John Schneider sounded like a man who had already started packing Shaheed’s boxes. “I saw the report yesterday, and I was like, ‘He and his representatives, I think they’ve been testing free agency for over a week now,'” Schneider told Seattle Sports.

Fast forward five days. Shaheed is back. Three years. $51 million. $34.7 million guaranteed. Agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey made it official on Monday, and just like that, the drama was over before most fans could finish stress-eating their way through it.

Why Shaheed Was Worth Every Penny To Seattle

Here’s the thing about Shaheed. He doesn’t always show up in the box score the way your fantasy football app wants him to. Fifteen catches. 188 yards. Zero receiving touchdowns in nine regular-season games with the Seahawks after his midseason trade from New Orleans. On paper, that looks like a guy who maybe gets a polite “thanks for your time” at the free agency door.

But football isn’t played on paper. And the Seahawks know exactly what Shaheed brings that no stat line can fully capture.

He stretches defenses like taffy. His speed forces defensive backs to play eight to ten yards off the line of scrimmage, which opens up short and intermediate routes for Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp.

Shaheed’s Special Teams Magic Was the Real Story

If you watched the Seahawks’ playoff run and didn’t feel something when Shaheed was lining up to return a kick, you might want to check your pulse. The guy was electric. He returned the opening kickoff of Seattle’s divisional round game against the San Francisco 49ers 95 yards for a touchdown. The tone was set, the 49ers were rattled, and the Seahawks won 41-6.

That wasn’t even his most clutch moment. Back in Week 16 against the Los Angeles Rams, with Seattle trailing by 16 points in the fourth quarter, Shaheed brought back a punt 58 yards for a touchdown. The Seahawks won in overtime and kept their grip on the NFC’s top seed. Without that return? The whole story might have been different.

He averaged 29.8 yards per kickoff return and 14.7 yards per punt return in 2025, both ranking fifth in the NFL. More impressively, he was the only player in the league to finish top five in both categories. That’s not a coincidence. That’s elite.

Shaheed’s Full Contract Breakdown

For anyone who likes the numbers laid out clean and simple, here’s what the deal looks like:

  • Term: 3 years
  • Total value: $51 million
  • Average annual value (AAV): $17 million
  • Guaranteed money: $34.7 million

Shaheed now becomes the highest-paid wide receiver on the Seattle roster, with Smith-Njigba still operating on his rookie deal. He slots in as the second receiver on the depth chart behind Smith-Njigba, with Kupp rounding out the top three.

What’s Next for the Super Bowl Champions

The Seahawks are defending Super Bowl LX champions heading into 2026, and they’re already navigating some real roster turbulence. Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Cornerback Coby Bryant is headed to Chicago. Losing those two on the same day stings.

But keeping Shaheed matters. A lot. He’s a proven playoff performer who contributed to a championship, and bringing him back sends a clear message. Seattle isn’t just happy they won. They intend to compete again.

Shaheed spent his first three-plus seasons with the New Orleans Saints, racking up 138 catches for 2,055 yards and 13 total touchdowns. He earned First Team All-Pro honors as a return specialist in 2023 and made the Pro Bowl twice. The Seahawks gave up fourth- and fifth-round picks to get him at midseason. Re-signing him for three years is the validation that the trade was worth it all along.
