Rashod Bateman Has Already Surpassed His 2025 Receiving Total

Bateman’s primary role has been as a vertical threat. While he hasn’t been particularly effective generating yards after the catch, he has compensated by averaging 12.5 air yards per target, placing him in the 75th percentile league-wide, according to NFL Savant. However, he has also shown value on shorter routes, catching eight passes traveling between 0 and 9 yards while generating +0.14 EPA on those plays.

This versatility could allow Bateman to take snaps in the slot once Ja’Kobi Lane returns from his wrist injury. The rookie’s 6-foot-4 frame and impressive physical traits could make him a dangerous X-style receiver, potentially giving Baltimore more flexibility with how it utilizes Bateman. Although the veteran has primarily served as a vertical threat, his production on shorter passes suggests he doesn’t necessarily need to be confined to one role in the offense.

Having Bateman, Flowers, and Lane available would give Declan Doyle several ways to attack opposing defenses. Their different skill sets could allow him to move receivers around the formation and create favorable matchups, giving Lamar Jackson even more opportunities to exploit opposing defenses in an offense that has already had an excellent start to the season.
