Ravens Among Landing Spots for Dolphins Star

Early in the 2019 season, the Baltimore Ravens realized they had a superstar quarterback in Lamar Jackson. The Super Bowl window officially opened, and every single move since then has been with the goal of getting Jackson to the Big Game.

As such, the Ravens have brought in countless veterans – many past their prime – with the hopes of getting themselves over the hump. From Calais Campbell to Odell Beckham Jr., Justin Houston to Derrick Henry, Baltimore has become a preferred landing spot for many talents who aren’t necessarily at the peak of their powers.

That will keep general manager Eric DeCosta on speed dial for agents and executives across the league as the rumor mill churns.

Those rumors have continued deep into the offseason, with NFL.com listing the Ravens among potential trade partners for Miami Dolphins star Jalen Ramsey.

“After injuries ravaged its secondary in 2023, Baltimore has routinely attempted to add depth to the group over the last two offseasons,” Nick Shook wrote. “Last year, the Ravens drafted Nate Wiggins near the end of the first round. This year, they added Chidobe Awuzie in free agency and drafted Robert Longerbeam in the sixth round. Although Baltimore's CB room might seem crowded, if there's any team that consistently kicks the tires on known veterans looking to chase a ring, it's the Ravens.

“The financial side might not work out, but adding Ramsey would fit with the franchise's tendency to welcome in proven players who have the chance to make an instant impact -- and further strengthen a roster that is already expected to contend for a title.”

Both Ramsey and Baltimore corner Marlon Humphrey are at their best in the slot, presenting a bit of a conflict, although Ramsey has transitioned back to the boundary at Miami’s request in recent years. The Ravens aren’t necessarily weak at corner, either, especially if Kyle Hamilton is going to be taking extra snaps in the slot.

He and Humphrey combined for nearly 800 snaps in the slot in 2024. With first-round safety Malaki Starks opening the door for Hamilton to spend even more time inside.

That lends itself to the question of whether Ramsey, and his contract, would be worth it. Miami would have to eat some of the money, potentially inflating his price, too.

Welcoming Ramsey into such a strong unit with the promise of competing for a Super Bowl is certainly enticing. But as Shook notes, Baltimore’s tendency to chase stars cannot be ruled out, despite the obstacles making a deal more difficult.
