Despite arriving at Clemson as a top-100 recruit and getting drafted in the first round by the Ravens two years ago, cornerback Nate Wiggins claims that he’s been playing “at about 60-70 percent” since high school. Per Ravens staff writer Kevin Eck, “an undisclosed offseason surgery has restored (Wiggins) to 100 percent.”
As a top recruit for the Tigers, Wiggins broke out in his sophomore campaign, logging 13 passes defensed and a 98-yard pick six. Before joining the Ravens, Wiggins earned first-team All-ACC honors with six more passes defensed and a two more interceptions, one of which was another pick six. Wiggins impressed as a rookie logging 13 passes defensed and yet another pick six, this one 26 yards. Pro Football Focus (subscription required) graded him as the 25th best corner in the league out of 116 players graded at the position in his rookie season.
In 2025, despite Wiggins notching three interceptions and 14 more passes defensed, PFF didn’t look as kindly on his sophomore campaign, grading him 52nd out of 112 graded cornerbacks. He’s shown decent production over the past four years, but he’s been billed lately as a breakout candidate for Year 3. Wiggins appears inclined to buy in to that hype as, thanks to this offseason surgery, he will be “fully healthy for the first time since his high school” days.
About a month after Wiggins posted to social media from a hospital bed that he had undergone “successful surgery,” new head coach Jesse Minter was asked about the nature of the procedure. Informing the media that that information would remain internal, Minter expressed his excitement to work with Wiggins, saying that he thinks “there’s still a lot of room in his game” and that Wiggins knows that, too.
The Ravens uncharacteristically finished 31st in the NFL in passing yards allowed in Wiggins’ rookie season. They finished 30th in the same stat category last year and plan to run things back with the same trio of starting cornerbacks, featuring Wiggins and Chidobe Awuzie on the outside and Marlon Humphrey in the slot. Awuzie delivered in 2025 (11th of 112, per PFF), but Baltimore will hope a healthy Wiggins puts the 22-year-old back on track and that Humphrey (103rd of 112) will return to All-Pro form in 2026.
