Tempers flared and fists flew during Tuesday’s joint practice between the Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts, and former Clemson star Nate Wiggins was right in the middle of the chaos.
Now a second-year cornerback for the Ravens, Wiggins was ejected from practice after running in from the sideline and throwing multiple punches—reportedly uppercuts—during a brawl sparked by a late push from Ravens rookie Keyon Martin on a Colts player. When the Colts retaliated, Wiggins came to his teammate’s defense and ended up squaring off with Colts running back Tyler Goodson.
Both sidelines cleared in the aftermath, with coaches and staff scrambling to break it up. The joint session was supposed to be a lighter affair, as Baltimore had intentionally scheduled just one day of joint work with Indianapolis to avoid situations exactly like this.

“We used to do two days, which we kind of moved past that,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said before practice. “The second day is just a chippy day—a cheap shot day.”
John Harbaugh joked with the Colts’ Shane Steichen and Chris Ballard afterward that it’s “always special teams” that sparks fights.

Ironically, even the reduced format couldn’t prevent the eruption.
Wiggins was later escorted off the field and did not return, forced to watch from inside the team facility. It was a fiery moment from a young player who’s expected to take on a bigger role in the Ravens defense this year.

Baltimore’s 2024 first-round pick, Wiggins flashed major upside in his rookie season, tallying 33 tackles, a pick-six, 13 pass breakups, and a forced fumble. He earned seven votes for AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and finished 11th in the final standings.
While his explosiveness and swagger are part of what makes him an emerging star, Tuesday’s incident serves as a reminder that there’s a fine line between passion and penalty. As the Ravens prepare for a playoff push, Wiggins will need to keep his emotions in check without losing the edge that got him this far.
Baltimore will host Indianapolis in their preseason opener Thursday night. Wiggins will be one of the names to watch—if only because now, everyone’s watching.
