Ravens Ex Ray Lewis Ranks Top Four Current NFL Linebackers
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Former Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis had a Hall of Fame career, so he knows a little something about playing his position.

Over a 17-year career, Lewis was a two-time Super Bowl champion, a Super Bowl MVP, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, a seven-time first-team All-Pro, a three-time second-team All-Pro, a 13-time Pro Bowler, and of course, a Hall of Famer.

Lewis registered 2.059 tackles, 41.5 sacks, 67 pass deflections, forced 17 fumbles, tallied 31 interceptions, and recovered 20 fumbles.

Ahead of Super Bowl week, Lewis offered his top four current NFL linebackers, with a familiar name to Ravens fans at No. 1.

Lewis named fellow Raven Roquan Smith No. 1 on his list. Since coming over in a trade from the Bears, Smith has been an anchor on one of the most feared defenses in the league.

San Francisco's Fred Warner is No. 2 on the list, and he's equally important to the 49ers' defense as Smith is to his. Smith is the backbone of a smothering San Francisco defense that is appearing in Super Bowl LVIII this weekend.

At No. 3 is Seattle's Bobby Wagner. Wagner is a timeless talent who led the league in tackles this season at the age of 33. Save for one season in 2022, Wagner has spent his entire career with the Seahawks, playing the role of leader of their defense.

Some football fans, and particularly Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans might scratch their heads at Lewis' No. 4 choice. Devin White appears on this list and it seems the old adage of "one of these things is not like the other" applies here. White was benched multiple times this season and had statistically the worst year of his career.

We'd like to think Lewis knows what he's talking about, and he'll get the benefit of the doubt. And on his rankings, three out of four ain't bad.
