Ravens Injury Concerns Growing as Key Players Go Down

The Baltimore Ravens have started the new season 1-3, which has come as a surprise to everyone.

The Ravens’ injury concerns are now one of the biggest storylines early in the year. The team hasn’t looked like the roster that they appear to be on paper, and to make matters worse, injuries keep occurring.

Both sides of the ball feel the impact as injuries are piling up. With Baltimore’s depth struggles, uncertainty rises across the team.

Defensive Line Gets Hit Hard

Ravens’ injuries have hit the defense the hardest. Star defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike is out for the season due to a neck injury, while Broderick Washington was listed on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

Their absence leaves a major hole in the middle of the line. Rookie Aeneas Peebles will now need to step up and fill critical snaps alongside CJ Okoye, John Jenkins, and Travis Jones.

More Defensive Setbacks

The rest of the defense hasn’t had it any easier, either. Linebacker Roquan Smith remains sidelined for multiple weeks. His leadership that he bring to the team and tackling ability are tough to replace.

Trenton Simpson will likely take over Smith’s role or split rotations with undrafted rookie Jay Higgins, who had a great preseason.

The secondary took a huge hit, too. Marlon Humphrey will miss time with a calf injury, while Chidobe Awuzie and Kyle Hamilton didn’t practice Thursday, leaving their status against the Texans in question.

At the same time, Nate Wiggins, who was carted off in Week 4, returned to practice but participated in a limited capacity. Meanwhile, Jaire Alexander hasn’t played since Week 1 due to being a healthy scratch. T.J. Tampa could see more playing time as the Ravens look for answers in a defense that has struggled a lot.

Offense Feels the Impact

The Ravens injury concerns extend to the offensive side as Lamar Jackson could miss some games as well.

Without Jackson, Baltimore must lean on the run game more. The offense has struggled to stay consistent when Jackson doesn’t play, as they have a losing record without him. Jackson’s ability to extend plays and create explosive moments is irreplaceable. His absence limits the playbook and makes the offense predictable.

As a result, the team must adapt quickly. Cooper Rush is preparing to take over at quarterback, stepping into a crucial role while Jackson recovers.

In response, Baltimore will have to lean more heavily on Derrick Henry to control the pace. Overall, the offense faces a major challenge to stay productive during this stretch.

Injury Concerns Impacting Playoff Contention

The Ravens’ injury concerns are now a major issue across offense and defense. Depth is being tested at nearly every position.

Without healthy starters, the team struggles to stay consistent and execute its normal game plan. Thus, staying healthy will be crucial if Baltimore wants to remain in playoff contention.

The team must adapt quickly, rely on backups, and minimize further injuries to keep its season on track.
