A Tuesday report claimed that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson had "only an outside chance to play" in the Ravens' upcoming "Sunday Night Football" matchup at the 2-2 Atlanta Falcons due to the ankle injury Jackson suffered in Baltimore's win over the Tennessee Titans this past Sunday.
Jackson did not practice on Wednesday. However, Ravens head coach Jesse Minter was not ready to rule Jackson out after the team's practice wrapped up.
"It’s Wednesday," Minter said, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "There’s a lot of time between now and Sunday. To Lamar’s credit, he’s getting a lot of treatment and doing things. There’ll be a point later in the week where we’ll kinda figure out where it’s at. ...When he’s ready to play, he’ll be ready to play."
Backup Tyler Huntley filled in for Jackson against the Titans, and Huntley will start versus Atlanta if the two-time MVP can't go for that prime-time game. In the victory over Tennessee, Huntley went 8-of-9 passing for 63 yards in the contest's second half.
As Billy Heyen of Heavy noted, league insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Network/ESPN previously reported that Jackson's ankle issue is "unconventional," in that it technically isn't considered a high-ankle sprain or a low-ankle sprain. Rapoport also said on Tuesday that it was "likely" Jackson will miss the Falcons game.
Meanwhile, Jamison Hensley of ESPN shared that Minter was asked when Jackson could be ruled out for this Sunday's matchup.
"I think there's guys that can really go all the way up until that time limit before the game, calibers of players with enough experience to be able to play without a week of practice," Minter explained. "I think he's in that category based on everything that he's accomplished."
Minter's update could lead one to believe that Jackson may be a game-time decision this weekend. Shortly after the coach spoke, DraftKings Sportsbook had the 3-1 Ravens as 3.5-point road underdogs against a Falcons team that is coming off back-to-back wins.
