Ravens' Jimmy Smith, family safe after robbery at gunpoint

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith and his family endured a frightening ordeal this past Tuesday.

According to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec, Smith and his family were robbed at gunpoint after being followed from Los Angeles International Airport to their hotel on Tuesday:

The Ravens addressed the matter via a brief statement:

As noted by TMZ Sports, Smith, who turns 33 years old in July, grew up in Southern California. He entered the league when the Ravens selected him with the 27th pick of the 2011 NFL Draft and has played only for Baltimore during his pro tenure. He was a pivotal contributor in the Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

There were some questions about Smith's future both with the Ravens and the NFL in late December until he signed a one-year extension to remain with the franchise through the 2021 season.
