Ravens’ Joe Fagnano Drew Trade Interest

The beneficiary of that approach was undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano. The UConn product largely shone during his preseason outings, drawing praise and leading to questions about whether he would clear waivers if cut. In the end, Fagnano wound up being one of two UDFAs to make the Ravens’ initial 53-man roster.

Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic writes there was indeed trade interest in Fagnano in the wake of his preseason success. That helps explain Baltimore’s decision to carry a third quarterback behind Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley. On a recent episode of the Ravens Collective podcast, Zrebiec further detailed that at least three teams made calls to the Ravens about a potential trade. It is unclear if any firm offers were made, but the existence of a market makes it no surprise Baltimore decided to keep Fagnano on the roster.

Invited to rookie minicamp alongside Diego Pavia, Fagnano wound up remaining in place longer than the Heisman runner-up. Skylar Thompson entered training camp at No. 3 on the depth chart, but an injury landed him on season-ending IR. That resulted in more practice reps for Fangano, 25, along with considerable playing time in each of Baltimore’s three exhibition contests.

Jackson remains on course to be extended next spring, while Huntley re-signed on a two-year deal earlier this offseason. It will be interesting to see how long Fangano remains in place with the Ravens moving forward. In the event he does find himself on the move at some point, though, a number of suitors could emerge.
