Lamar Jackson filed a Notice of Opposition with the US Patent and Trademark Office wherein he opposed racing legend Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s application to trademark the No. 8. Jackson said his use of 8 and Earnhardt's use of the same number would "create confusion in the marketplace."

The two-time NFL Most Valuable Player has trademarked his clothing brands like "ERA 8 by Lamar Jackson" and he maintained the position if Earnhardt could also use No. 8, consumers might be confused and think they were working together.

The USPTO did not buy Jackson's argument. On Friday, Earnhardt announced he has secured the right to use his version of No.8, which he used when he raced.

The following day, NASCAR team RFK Racing posted a picture of two cars with a caption which took a shot at Jackson. Cars 6 and 17 represented two NFL quarterbacks, but no trademark was applied for.

"Excited Mohave Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen numbers on the cars this weekend," RFK Racing wrote on social media.

The respective drivers, Brad Keselowski and Chris Buescher drive cars with the respective quarterback's numbers. They were clearly poking fun at Jackson or any other athlete who believes they can trademark a number for their exclusive use.

This was not Jackson's first foray into trademark disputes. Last season he challenged former Dallas Cowboys star and Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman's use of the same number in his business endeavors. Jackson did not comment regarding the Aikman situation.

He told reporters at training camp last season he was going to answer questions only about football.

"We're going to keep it [about] football," Jackson said. "We're going to keep this about football. That's outside noice. We're sticking with [talking about training] camp, football and that's it."
