Ravens’ Lamar Jackson Reveals Why His Mom Cussed Him Out After Eagles Loss

Baltimore Ravens fans have said they want to see quarterback Lamar Jackson pass more and run less.

His mother Felicia is not one of them.

In fact, she reprimanded her son for not running more in Sunday’s 24-19 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles — a game in which Jackson rushed eight times for 79 yards and was just three yards shy of tying Derrick Henry for the team lead in rushing yards.

Jackson admitted during his postgame press conference that his mother gave him an expletive-filled talking to once the game ended.

“My momma just told me [I should’ve run more],” Jackson told reporters after the game. “She just cussed me out, so I’m mad. … She said there was lanes I should’ve took and ran, but you know I was just trying to let guys develop routes and I was just trying to go through my progressions. But yeah, she’s right.”

Jackson’s seeming hesitancy to pull it down and take off running was noticeable during the broadcast. A few times the announcers pointed out running lanes that Jackson normally would’ve taken advantage of.

But to Jackson’s point, the Eagles entered the game with the No. 1 defense and No. 7 run defense, allowing just 99.2 yards per game, so trying to pick apart the secondary likely seemed like the safer bet than trying to run on a stout front seven.

Sunday’s game was the third time Jackson actually ran for 70 or more yards this season, and his 9.9 yards per carry is his second-highest mark of the year.

Baltimore totaled 372 yards of total offense against the Eagles, but they had a hard time punching the ball into the end zone. Twice Jackson led the Ravens into the red zone but came up empty after Justin Tucker, who’s normally automatic from under 50 yards, missed both of his kicks.
