Ravens: Lamar Jackson Wins NFL MVP
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Certain award winners are of the expected variety. The NFL MVP for this past season was clearly one of them. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was the obvious winner of the award for a considerable amount of the season.

This year’s MVP completed 67.2% of his passes for 3,678 yards and 24 touchdowns while adding 821 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. Even though this looks like a typical season from Jackson, there was some concern that it may not play out this way. Baltimore parted ways with offensive coordinator Greg Roman before the season due to the offense becoming somewhat stale. The Ravens brought in Todd Monken to overhaul the offense and overhaul he did. Monken’s involvement led to Jackson having one of, if not the best, passing performance of his career.

Jackson is someone who drives the offense, clearly responsible for most, if not all, of their success. Players who fit this description are routinely in the MVP conversation, and for good reason. There is a very good chance Baltimore would not sniff the playoffs without Jackson at the helm. With that in mind, Jackson was the only choice to be the NFL’s Most Valuable Player.
