Ravens Lose Safety to Chiefs in NFL Free Agency

The Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs have been two of the top teams in the AFC over the past decade. Since Patrick Mahomes became the starting quarterback of the Chiefs in the 2018 season, Kansas City has won seven division titles, been to four Super Bowls and won three of them.

As for the Ravens, quarterback Lamar Jackson took over in the same year as Mahomes, and since then, Baltimore has won the division four times and been to the playoffs on five occasions. However, the Ravens haven't seen the same success in the postseason that the Chiefs have, not making it past the conference championship game in Jackson's tenure.

While both Kansas City and Baltimore struggled in 2025, neither team making it to the playoffs, there's no doubt that Mahomes and Jackson will be held down for long.

The Chiefs will be getting some help in the form of a former Ravens defender, as on Monday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that free agent safety Alohi Gilman agreed to sign a three-year deal with Kansas City.

Gilman was a midseason acquisition for the Ravens last season, making 12 starts at defensive back for Baltimore.

"Safety Alohi Gilman is headed to the Chiefs for three years at $24.75M including $15M guaranteed, per source," Fowler said.

Gilman has spent six years in the NFL, most of which came with the Los Angeles Chargers before being traded to the Ravens. In those years, he has made 85 appearances with 51 starts, totaling 320 tackles, five forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and five interceptions, including one pick-six.

He will be a good addition to a Chiefs secondary that saw three players agree to deals with other teams on Monday.
