Ravens' Matt Judon criticizes timing of Goodell's support for 'Black Lives Matter'

Ravens linebacker Matthew Judon shared his thoughts on Roger Goodell's recent support of the 'Black Lives Matter' movement, criticizing the NFL commissioner for taking this long to get on board with racial justice.

"It's not when Roger Goodell said black lives matter that now everybody can say it," Judon told reporters. "I think we should have been questioning why Roger Goodell didn't say black lives matter when he was born, or when he became commissioner or when he was re-elected commissioner. ... It's not cool that Roger Goodell said it. He should've been saying it."

Goodell has attempted to atone for his behavior and silence in the past. Earlier this month, he released a video saying "we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier" and that the NFL would "encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest." Last night, he said that he would 'support' a team signing Colin Kaepernick. However, Judon's seemed unimpressed with Goodell's statements so far.

"I'm with all the protests that we have to do and all the progress that we have to make," Judon said. "I'm with that, but it's not because Roger Goodell said, 'black lives matter.' We're all here for a common goal, and it's usually to win football games. But right now, it's bigger than football."

Judon also spoke about the NFL's treatment of Kaepernick, saying that he did not deserve to get forced out of the league for kneeling during the national anthem.

"There shouldn't have been pushback," Judon said. "It should have been like, 'OK, let's help this man in his cause. That was just his way of expressing it."
