Ravens offense has one major problem holding it back

QB Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens offense had several opportunities to win in their 17-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5. However, one alarming stat proves why they struggled to put the game away once again.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, Jackson now has 11 turnovers in the fourth quarter or overtime of one-score games over the last three seasons, the most of anyone in the NFL. Falcons backup QB Taylor Heinicke ranks second with nine such turnovers.

It's quite the surprising stat for the 2019 NFL MVP, but he continued the trend by turning the ball over two times in the fourth quarter Sunday. Jackson threw an interception to rookie CB Joey Porter Jr. and then fumbled on Baltimore's next drive.

Jackson's turnover problem during crucial in-game situations has been on display too often this season. He's thrown two interceptions and fumbled seven times (four lost) after he only gave the football away nine times in 2022.

The veteran quarterback has struggled against Pittsburgh in his career. The Steelers are the only team in which he has thrown more interceptions (7) than touchdown passes (4) against in his career, per ESPN's Jamison Hensley. He has also fumbled five times in the four meetings.

However, the Ravens' tough day on offense wasn't aided by their wide receivers either. Baltimore had seven drops on Sunday, per TruMedia, which is tied for the third-most by any team since 2013.

Tight end Mark Andrews, who led the team with three drops, knows he and the team are much better than how they've been playing.

"It's almost like a sleeping giant, man," Andrews said. "We need to wake up."

Baltimore's offense will have the opportunity to get back on track in Week 6 when it heads to Tennessee to face the 2-3 Titans.
