Ravens punter Sam Koch, franchise leader in games played, announces retirement

In the 26-year history of the Baltimore Ravens, no player has taken the field more times than punter Sam Koch. The 2015 Pro Bowler has now played his final NFL contest, as he announced his retirement on Thursday.

With Koch's announcement, ESPN's Jamison Hensley notes that the only Ravens player left from the 2012 Super Bowl-winning team who is currently under contract is five-time All-Pro kicker Justin Tucker. Hensley also adds that, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only active player with "longer current service with his team" is Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Koch was selected by Baltimore in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of the University of Nebraska. He missed only one career game after being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list during the 2020 campaign.

His best season came in 2015, when he earned Pro Bowl honors and was named Second-Team All-Pro.
