Ravens QB Lamar Jackson shares the simple reason behind his improvement in key area

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson had quite a difficult time in taking care of the football earlier in the season.

Jackson fumbled a total of 10 times over the Ravens’ first nine games of their season. He had four different games in which he fumbled at least two times, including in Baltimore’s home loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Jackson has since been much more careful with the football, tallying a mere one fumble in his last six starts. Even as he has taken quite a bit of hard hits as of late, he has continued to hold on to the football in crucial on-field situations.

At the end of the day, Jackson has simply strived to protect the football at all costs.

"I can't call it — just protecting the ball," Jackson said during a press conference on Wednesday. "I think I said it a couple weeks ago — our No. 1 job on offense is to protect the ball. We can't move on with drives without the football.

"We can't score touchdowns without the ball in our possession. The biggest thing for me was just protecting the ball, and I believe I've been doing a pretty good job at it."

Jackson is set to next square off with the Miami Dolphins in Week 17. The Dolphins have tallied 10 fumble takeaways on the year, which is more than they had all of last season (six).
