Ravens Release Justin Tucker Amid Legal Allegations

The Baltimore Ravens have announced that former Texas Longhorns kicker Justin Tucker has been released after spending 13 years with the team.

This comes after he has been accused of inappropriate behavior by 16 massage therapists at eight different spas and wellness centers in the Baltimore area, in which all the incidents occurred between 2012-2016.

After Tucker has publicly stated that the accusations were false in January of this year, Ravens Executive Vice President and General Manager Eric DeCosta announced his release.

In his statement, DeCosta claimed that his release was a “football decision” and has plans to move on from the eight-time All-Pro.

"Sometimes football decisions are incredibly difficult, and this is one of those instances. Considering our current roster, we have made the tough decision to release Justin Tucker," he stated.

Tucker, allegations aside, was one of the best kickers in NFL history. His eight All-Pro selections, seven Pro Bowl appearances, and the highest field goal percentage in NFL history (minimum 100 attempts) make him undoubtedly one of the best to do it.

He is coming off his worst season yet as a pro with a field goal percentage of 73.3%, significantly lower than his 86.5% the year prior.

Unfortunately, his legal troubles outside of football make this release tough, even after a down year. The noise surrounding the legal situation is hard for a locker room to take in and adds to how unfortunate it is for him and the Ravens to part ways.

The Ravens assessed the kicker position in the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting University of Arizona kicker Tyler Loop in the sixth round.

Loop is currently the only kicker on the roster and will potentially receive some competition heading into rookie camp and offseason workouts.

In college, Loop was an 83.8% field goal kicker while being 126 of 128 on extra points throughout his four years as the Wildcats' kicker, and now takes his talents to Baltimore.

It will be interesting to see whether Tucker gets signed by a team, especially if one is willing to take on the potential baggage of his situation. Much will also depend on what the NFL uncovers in its investigation.
