Ravens Restructure Ronnie Stanley's Contract, Cut Tyus Bowser
Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens' busy off-season continued on Wednesday, as they've reportedly agreed to restructure left tackle Ronnie Stanley's contract and are cutting outside linebacker Tyus Bowser.

ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler first reported Baltimore agreeing to restructure Stanley's contract. He was previously owed $15 million and had a $26.5 million cap hit, the Ravens' second-highest only to quarterback Lamar Jackson. Now, the former All-Pro will have the opportunity to earn that money back through incentives.

Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic was the first to report the Ravens cutting Bowser. By cutting Bowser, Baltimore saves roughly $5.5 million, according to OverTheCap. They also opened up nearly $5 million in cap space by agreeing to trade offensive tackle Morgan Moses to the New York Jets on Wednesday.

Bowser showed promise in 2021 when he had seven sacks, but the 28-year-old outside linebacker hasn't been able to capitalize on the career season, as he's only played in nine games since then due to multiple injuries. A knee injury kept Bowser out the entire 2023 season.

Injuries have plagued Stanley as well, as he has only played in 31 games in the regular season since 2020. He played in 13 games last season, the most since he played in 14 games in 2019.

Given the shuffling on the Ravens' offensive line after losing offensive guard, John Simpson, trading Moses and Kevin Zeitler still being a free agent, restructuring Stanley's contract was the best option as opposed to cutting him and having to potentially replace four starters. If the deal gets the best out of Stanley, Baltimore may have one of the better left tackles in football and have saved money in the process.
