Ravens reward Zay Flowers with lucrative new contract

The Baltimore Ravens made sure one of Lamar Jackson's top weapons isn't going anywhere.

After emerging as one of the NFL's most dynamic young receivers, Zay Flowers has reportedly agreed to a lucrative contract extension, giving Baltimore another cornerstone piece as it continues to pursue a Super Bowl championship.

Zay Flowers becomes one of highest paid receivers

According to ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter, Flowers and Baltimore are in agreement on a four-year, $140 million extension with $108 million guaranteed.

In terms of AAV, Flower's at $35 million per year puts him in a tie with Justin Jefferson for the fourth highest-paid receiver in the league this season.

Is Zay Flowers really worth $35 million per year?

Flowers is coming off a career-best season, where he set career highs in targets (118), receptions (86) and yards (1,211). He also tied his career high in touchdowns with five.

So yes, coming off a career season is the perfect time for an extension, but is Flowers really worth the same amount of money as the aforementioned Jefferson and more than some other notable names?

How will Zay Flowers handle getting most of the defensive attention?

With one of Baltimore's top targets in Isaiah Likely now with the New York Giants, Flowers has become the clear focal point and No. 1 priority for defenses when playing against the Ravens.

He'll be getting a lot of double coverage thrown his way, so production may be a bit more difficult to come by.

If Flowers can power through having the full attention of defenses and post a third consecutive 1,000-yard season, it'll show that he is truly a top receiver in the league and is worth the extension he received.
