Ravens see an encouraging development for a potential return that could further unlock Baltimore's offense in time for Week 3 battle with Lions

When the Baltimore Ravens ultimately decided not to put tight end Isaiah Likely on injured reserve at the start of the season, the writing on the wall seemed to indicate that the team expected him to be back within the first few weeks of the season. With a massive Week 3 showcase looming against the Detroit Lions this Monday, it appears as though the Ravens' faith in Likely's recovery timeline is set to pay off.

Likely was on the field on Thursday for practice with the rest of the Ravens offense, suggesting he's creeping ever closer to a return as yet another weapon at quarterback Lamar Jackson's disposal.

The Ravens' official Twitter account posted a clip from today's practice of Likely looking active while going through individual drills, suggesting he's not on any major restrictions from his recovery from a right foot fracture suffered early on in training camp. He'll join Mark Andrews in Baltimore's tight end room and look to bring some more life to the passing game from the position — Andrews has two catches for seven yards through Baltimore's first two games of the season.

Likely was the recipient of some high praise this offseason from his head coach, John Harbaugh, and it will soon be time for him to try to live up to those standards. The Lions have a stout pair of safeties and sturdy linebacker play, so the potential first matchup back for Likely should be a great litmus test for getting his legs back underneath of him.

The Ravens, and hopefully Likely, will have an extra day of prep than the rest of the NFL for their Week 3 game — and we'll know soon enough if that's all Likely needs to officially get back into the game.
