Ravens star explains how newest signing gives secondary 'endless options'

On Wednesday, the Baltimore Ravens signed cornerback Jaire Alexander to a one-year, $4M deal. Baltimore corner Marlon Humphrey seems thrilled with the move.

"A quote that's never been said and probably will never be said in NFL history is 'We got too many corners that can cover,'" the four-time Pro Bowler told the media. "I think that's a great problem to have. Really excited for that addition. The options are endless. It's going to be a fun secondary."

Last season, the Ravens had the opposite problem, allowing the league's second-most passing yards (244.1) during the regular season.

The Ravens reportedly attempted to acquire four-time Pro Bowl CB Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints before the 2024 trade deadline passed. (The Saints dealt Lattimore to the Washington Commanders.)

Instead, the Ravens acquired CB Tre'Davious White from the Los Angeles Rams, which didn't work out. White (now with the Buffalo Bills) had no interceptions in seven regular-season games with Baltimore and just three passes defended.

Alexander, 28, could be the upgrade Baltimore needs. Over the past two seasons, he has battled groin, back, shoulder and knee injuries, playing in just 14 regular-season games. When healthy, however, he's a lockdown corner.

In his first five seasons with the Green Bay Packers, the 2018 first-round pick made two Pro Bowls and earned two second-team All-Pro nods. The former Louisville Cardinal had five interceptions in 16 regular-season games during the 2022 season, which tied for the fifth most in the league.

Pair a healthy Alexander with Humphrey and star Baltimore safety Kyle Hamilton, and suddenly the Ravens secondary has a fearsome trio. Humphrey had a career-high six interceptions in 16 regular-season games last season, while Hamilton earned a second-team All-Pro nod.

Over the past two seasons, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen helped eliminate Baltimore in the playoffs. With Alexander on the roster, the Ravens could be geared to stop them if they meet in the postseason again this upcoming season.
