Ravens star issues statement addressing heroic airplane story

Mark Andrews has confirmed that he was on a flight Thursday with a woman who had a medical emergency, though the Baltimore Ravens star downplayed the role he played in the frightening situation.

Baltimore native Andrew Springs says he was on a flight from Baltimore to Phoenix on Thursday morning when a female passenger experienced a medical emergency. 

In a thread on X, Springs explained that two medical professionals helped the woman as she struggled with low blood pressure, low oxygen and a weak pulse. A passenger then asked if the woman’s blood sugar could be the issue and said he had a diabetic testing kit with him.

The passenger with the diabetic test kit was Andrews, who is a Type 1 diabetic. Springs said Andrews helped explain how to use the kit and the woman’s heart rate eventually stabilized. Paramedics then took over when the flight landed. You can read the full thread here.

Shortly after the story went viral, Andrews issued a statement through the Ravens. The tight end said the “real heroes” were the flight attendants, nurse and doctor on board who helped the woman.
