Ravens take another gamble in latest mock draft

The Ravens have been one of the more successful teams in the NFL at building their roster through the draft by taking who they believe to be the best player available.

However, Baltimore has struggled to draft one position and CBS Sports' Garrett Podell has the team taking yet another gamble on it in his latest mock draft.

Podell has the Ravens selecting Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman with pick No. 30 in the 2024 NFL Draft.

"Keon Coleman is the bigger-bodied target (6-4, 215) at wide receiver that Lamar Jackson needs," Podell writes. "Coleman can line up anywhere, and he is a slick route runner with phenomenal knowledge of how to best utilize his body to maintain leverage against defenders. Coleman has an argument for being the best contested catcher in this class. He's a great athlete, and he will be a red zone monster in the NFL."

Coleman has been impressive over the last two years, posting 108 catches for 1,456 yards and 18 touchdowns at two different schools (FSU and MSU).

But Baltimore's track record at drafting wide receivers hasn't been great. Outside of 2023 first-round WR Zay Flowers, the team has had to lean on free agency to give QB Lamar Jackson reliable weapons.

That may be the case once again if the Ravens draft Coleman. The 20-year-old seems to be rising up some draft boards as the offseason begins. He still currently ranks as Pro Football Focus' seventh-best wide receiver and No. 37 overall prospect on its big board.

That doesn't mean Coleman won't continue to rise after the NFL Scouting Combine and Pro Days, but Baltimore should be wary of investing yet another first-round pick on the position.

The Ravens do have a few wide receivers who are set to become free agents, including veterans Odell Beckham Jr. and Nelson Agholor. So, they will likely need to add another in free agency or the draft.

Whichever way they decide to add to their roster remains to be seen. Podell seems to think Baltimore will take another crack in the draft to find another wide receiver to pair with Flowers.

And if it does work out, Flowers and Coleman could create quite the duo for many years to come.
