Ravens TE Durham Smythe Suffers Torn Achilles

Durham Smythe was among the Ravens players who exited Week 4 with an injury. The veteran tight end will not return in 2026.

Smythe suffered an Achilles tear, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Testing confirmed the early fears in this case. As a result, Baltimore will be without a key run-blocking presence for the remainder of the season.

The Ravens worked out an extension with Mark Andrews late last season, but fellow tight ends Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar departed in free agency. As such, it came as little surprise when two draft investments were made at the TE spot in April. Before that, however, Baltimore had added Smythe as an experienced blocking presence. He also represented a familiar face for first-year offensive coordinator Declan Doyle after the two worked together in Chicago in 2025.

Beginning his ninth NFL season via the Ravens agreement, Smythe logged a 50% snap share on offense in his four games with the team. The 31-year-old tight end — a Dolphins presence for seven seasons — is now out of the picture in Baltimore. The Ravens have fourth- and fifth-round rookies Matthew Hibner and Josh Cuevas on their 53-man roster behind Andrews.

Smythe, 31, agreed to a one-year deal worth $3MM during the first week of free agency. Baltimore signed off on a $2MM upfront guarantee for the veteran tight end, who saw his full compensation lock in as a vested veteran shortly before the season.
