The 2025 season for the Miami Dolphins was a chaotic mess that led to the Dolphins cleaning out the Miami head coach, Mike McDaniel, and his coaching staff. In addition, the Dolphins decided to move on from Tyreek Hill and, with a new head coach, will likely part ways with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. While Miami’s failures in 2025 were not solely due to a poor draft, the lack of production from its draft picks did not help.

Miami’s first-round draft pick, defensive tackle Kenneth Grant, and second-round draft pick, offensive guard Jonah Savaiinaea, failed to make the impact the Dolphins needed from both players. Grant had a slow start to the 2025 season, and he struggled to adjust to the speed of NFL football. However, in the second half of the season, Grant showed flashes of potential. In addition, Savaiinaea had a much more difficult transition to the NFL, especially in pass protection. Consequently, the failure of both of these players to make the desired impact became a defining feature of the Dolphins’ 2025 draft.

2 37 Jonah Savaiinaea G F
5 143 Jordan Phillips NT B+
5 150 Jason Marshall Jr. CB B-
5 155 Dante Trader Jr. S B-
6 179 Ollie Gordon II RB C
7 231 Quinn Ewers QB B-
7 253 Zeek Biggers DT C

While the Dolphins’ first and second round draft picks fell short of expectations, the Dolphins did have some success with their mid-round picks, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive lineman Jordan Phillips demonstrated the ability to be a consistent run stuffer. In addition, the Dolphins were able to utilize cornerbacks Jason Marshall Jr. and Dante Trader Jr., both of whom played well enough to become rotational players on the Miami defense.

Offensively, the Dolphins did give seventh-round draft pick Quinn Ewers a chance to lead the Miami offense. However, during his time on the field, Ewers failed to establish himself as a serious threat as a quarterback for the Dolphins’ offense. Ultimately, Miami attempted to use the 2025 draft to shore up their defense, but instead came up short on both sides of the ball.

Miami Dolphins 2025 Draft Re-Grade = D-

Very few NFL teams can fail to get production from their first and second draft picks, and the Dolphins ultimately suffered the consequences of their shortcomings on offense and defense. While the first few draft picks did not deliver what Miami was looking for in the 2025 draft, they did get solid production from their Day 3 prospects. During the 2026 NFL draft, the Dolphins will need to adopt a fresh approach and get more value from their draft picks, especially in the first few rounds.
