Well, Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman took a chance on cutting safety Tristin McCollum with the hopes that he could get McCollum back on the practice squad. McCollum will be traveling to the opposite side of the country instead.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Las Vegas Raiders have claimed McCollum off waivers. McCollum was cut so that the Eagles could make room for offensive lineman Willie Lampkin, who Philly claimed from the Los Angeles Rams.

McCollum went undrafted in 2023 as he played the last two years in Philadelphia. He racked up 39 tackles and two pass deflections in 17 career games.
As many Eagles fans are aware, the Raiders have numerous ties to the Eagles in their front office. Currently with the Raiders, Anthony Patch and Brandon Hunt were both recently in the front office of Philadelphia before departing for Las Vegas. Even the Raiders general manager, John Spytek, was once an intern and scout for the Eagles in the mid-2000s.
McCollum is a solid safety who demonstrated a significant amount of physicality in the position during the preseason. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, at one point during offseason workouts, surprisingly said McCollum would compete for the starting safety job with Sydney Brown and rookie second-round pick Andrew Mukuba.
When training camp began, McCollum did not receive any first-team reps and was relegated to a backup role. Many thought he would be just the fourth safety on the team, but the team ultimately went in another direction.
Marcus Epps was signed in McCollum's place, but did not go on the active roster. Instead, Epps was placed on the practice squad.
Eagles fans will miss McCollum for the impact he made on special teams, but hopefully he will get a shot to play for the Raiders.
