Recent NFL news makes Calvin Ridley's contract even sweeter for the Tennessee Titans
Denny Simmons / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK

There was quite an uproar from national media members across the football world after the Titans inked wide receiver Calvin Ridley to a four-year deal worth $92 million with $50 million in guaranteed money back in March.

Though Ridley was a massive upgrade at a position of desperate need, many believed the Titans overpaid for the 29-year-old's services.

That tune has changed as the offseason has crawled along. Players like AJ Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Devonta Smith, Nico Collins and now Jaylen Waddle each signed deals that vault them into the top-10 highest paid wide receivers in the NFL.

The Dolphins signed Waddle to a three-year extension worth $84.75 million on Thursday. Waddle, Smith and Collins are each viewed as the second option on their respective teams entering the 2024 season.

While there was temporary backlash to the Ridley deal, the Titans got out in front of the market and paid a fair price for one of the best, if not the best, wideouts in free agency. Plus, the Titans had money to blow and investing on a position of weakness was always going to be the right idea for the new direction of the team.

Ridley now ranks as the NFL's 13th highest-paid receiver with plenty of young standouts across the league in line to get paid following the season.

This just serves a reminder to those that see a lucrative deal in free agency to hold their tongues before shouting "Massive overpay!" from the mountaintops. Ridley's deal has already aged well before he's taken a single snap in a Titans uniform.
