The NFL schedule is set to release later this evening. As we all wait, some reports are flowing regarding specific matchups. Some are rumors - don't trust those. You won't find those here. Rather, a new report regarding the New Orleans Saints 2025-2026 schedule reveals a key piece of the full slate.
According to Nick Underhill, the Saints are set to play the Cardinals to open their season. It will be a home game to kick off a new era for New Orleans. That's a great update.

The Saints and Cardinals' matchup is tied at sixteen wins apiece. Therefore, the winner of this season opener will hold an advantage in record over the other until the next time they play, at the least.
New Orleans has won three of the past five against Arizona. That being said, the Cardinals defeated the Saints, 16-14, last season during the preseason. The last matchup between the two to count was in 2022. The Cardinals won that game, 42-34.
Regardless, this matchup allows the Saints to have a winnable first game in front of their own fans to begin a new chapter in New Orleans football. Who will be the starting quarterback to open the year for the black and gold? Only time will tell.
According to Underhill, the Saints will also play the Denver Broncos in Week 3 of the preseason. There's another match against Sean Payton. This time, it's just an exhibition. Last season, Payton's Broncos took care of the Saints quite easily.
