Recently Released Raiders CB Lands With Panthers

The Las Vegas Raiders have struggled to find any stability in recent years, as evidenced by their nearly annual changing of their head coach and general manager. While quarterback play has certainly been an issue, an inability to draft well or properly spend their money in free agency has also plagued the franchise.

Just last year, general manager Tom Telesco nailed the first three rounds of the draft but failed to find any value on Day 3. He also added quarterback Gardner Minshew and running back Alexander Mattison in free agency, both of whom were underwhelming signings and exacerbated the team's issues at those positions.

One of the players Telesco drafted in the seventh round last year was Pittsburgh cornerback M.J. Devonshire, whom new general manager John Spytek waived before the 2025 NFL Draft. On Monday, ESPN's Ryan McFadden reported  that Devonshire was claimed on waivers by the Carolina Panthers.

Devonshire did not make the initial 53-man roster for the Raiders last fall, and he spent the entire year on the practice squad. Even though the team was decimated with injuries in the secondary, the rookie was never elevated to the active roster and did not appear in a game all season.

Carolina may present a better opportunity for him to earn some playing time, as the team lacks depth outside of Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson. He'll be reunited with former Raiders Tre'Von Moehrig and Hunter Renfrow with the Panthers as he attempts to revitalize his career.
