Report: 3 NFL Teams Who Need WR Mike Williams
Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers made a stunning NFL announcement earlier today. That announcement was the pending release of WR Mike Williams after seven seasons with the team. Williams is considered an elite NFL wide receiver.

However, he has had injury issues over the years. It is to the point he has only played a full season once in his NFL career. So, which teams could be willing to take a chance on him? Here are three of the best potential fits.

1. New England Patriots

One team that could really use a wide receiver is the New England Patriots. This team had one of the worst offenses last season. Plus, New England has made some crucial organizational changes.

This includes replacing legendary head coach Bill Belichick and trading QB Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars. With Jerod Mayo taking over as head coach and the Patriots likely drafting a new quarterback, Mike Williams could be a great veteran presence at a discount here.

2. Washington Commanders

Another interesting landing spot for Williams is the Washington Commanders. The main argument against this is the team already has star WR Terry McLaurin. However, the Commanders could benefit greatly from adding another stud veteran WR behind him.

On top of this, Washington has the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. If they decide to draft a quarterback with that pick, they will likely miss out on the top wide receivers available. So, adding another veteran receiver could benefit that quarterback greatly.

3. Tennessee Titans

The Titans are another team that could greatly benefit from upgrading at the wide receiver position. Last season, there was an unofficial passing of the torch from veteran QB Ryan Tannehill to rookie QB Will Levis. Next year, Levis enters his second year in the NFL and he could use a security blanket to help him develop.

This is where Williams comes in. On top of being a solid veteran presence, the Titans can more than afford to do this. Believe it or not, Tennessee has the most salary cap space in the NFL. A big part of this is their starting quarterback still being on a rookie contract. As a result, the Titans have the extra cap space available to spend some money on an established wide receiver such as Williams.
