The San Francisco 49ers are finalizing a trade to acquire defensive end Bryce Huff from the Philadelphia Eagles, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal is expected to send Huff to the Bay Area in exchange for a mid-round draft pick, though it won't be processed until after June 1. Schefter notes that both teams are actively working to make the trade a reality.
"The trade cannot and would not be processed until after June 1," Schefter noted. "But both sides are working to make it happen, and Huff already has reworked his contract to help facilitate the trade."

The move would continue the 49ers' defensive line overhaul this offseason. San Francisco parted ways with Javon Hargrave, Leonard Floyd, and Maliek Collins, replacing them with draft picks Mykel Williams, Alfred Collins, and CJ West. All-Pro pass rusher Nick Bosa still anchors the unit.
"For the trade to be get finalized next week, the Eagles restructured Huff's contract," Schefter continued. "He was set to make about $17 million fully guaranteed this season from Philadelphia, but the Eagles now will take on only $9.05 million in salary, leaving the 49ers responsible for the remaining $7.95 million due to Huff this season."
Huff brings familiarity to the coaching staff as well. 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh previously coached Huff during his tenure as head coach of the New York Jets, where Huff spent the first four years of his NFL career.
The 27-year-old pass rusher's best season came under Saleh in 2023 with the Jets, finishing with 10 sacks, 29 tackles, 21 quarterback hits, and one pass defensed, per Pro Football Reference. The defensive end earned a Pro Football Focus pass rush grade of 86.8 or higher in each of his last two seasons (2022, 2023) with the Jets.
"Under Saleh in 2023, Huff had a career-high 10 sacks and 68 pressures on just 312 pass rush snaps -- the best pressure rate in the NFL at 21.8%, per Next Gen Stats," Schefter added.
Huff managed just 2.5 sacks in 2024, though he missed five weeks due to a torn ligament in his wrist. He was activated from injured reserve on December 28 but was inactive for the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Undrafted in 2020, Huff has totaled 20 career sacks across five NFL seasons and has the potential to provide a significant boost to a 49ers pass rush that underperformed in 2024.
