Aaron Rodgers has yet to announce his intentions for 2022, and that may have something to do with the contract negotiations between him and the Green Bay Packers.

If Rodgers does decide to continue playing next season, he has no intention of doing so at a discounted rate. ESPN’s Dianna Russini said on “The Rich Eisen Show” Thursday that she has been told Rodgers is looking for a massive pay day.

“From the conversations I’ve had with a lot of people in the league, he wants to be the highest-paid player in the NFL by a wide margin,” Russini said. “So, we’re talking about $50 million a year. We know the cap situation the Green Bay Packers are in. We know Davante Adams needs to get paid, so there’s a lot on the table.”

You can hear more from Russini below:

Patrick Mahomes makes an average of $45 million per year with the Kansas City Chiefs. We don’t doubt Rodgers is asking for $50 million, but he would probably “settle” for just being the highest-paid player in the league.

A recent report made it seem like the Packers are willing to pay Rodgers whatever he wants, even if it puts them in salary cap jail. Rodgers also wants to contend for a championship, so he may have to be somewhat flexible if that is his top priority.

Rodgers will turn 39 late next season. He just won his second consecutive NFL MVP award, so he has shown no signs of slowing down. There’s no question he deserves to be among the highest-paid players in the league. The Packers just have to make it work.
