Report: Adam Gase 'not respected' in Jets locker room

It appears things have taken a turn for the worse in New York since Jets All-Pro safety Jamal Adams requested a trade from the team, and one person may have a lot to do with it.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Adam Gase is a "major factor" in why Adams has requested a trade.

Sure, that's not ideal, but according to Mehta, the Gase saga gets even worse. The Jets head coach, apparently, isn't respected in the locker room.

To this point, the ongoing dispute between Adams and the Jets has revolved around New York's lack of urgency to give the 24-year-old his extension, so this latest report from Mehta certainly is interesting. While he didn't add any major specifics of the situation, Adams most likely will respond to the report, especially considering he's rather vocal on social media.

The signing of Gase, who took over in New York last season after three years with the Miami Dolphins, was a highly controversial one. Gase was coming off an unsuccessful tenure in Florida and even made frequent headlines for being the driving force of multiple locker room disputes while coaching the Dolphins. It's no surprise, then, that locker room talk is coming up again as he heads into his second season with the Jets.

Gase, quite frankly, isn't the long-term leader that a number of players in the locker room probably thought he could be. After a 7-9 season with countless lackluster performances, Gase may be on his way out in the near future as more coaching candidates rise to the occasion.

On another Adams note, he made it known that his desired destination is the Dallas Cowboys, but his saga with the Jets seems to get more complicated by the day. The Jets have yet to comment on Adams' trade request, though it appears they have no intention of moving him any time soon.

Dallas has been interested in Adams for a while now. They first made their interest known at the trade deadline in October, and were even engaged in discussions with the Jets regarding the young safety. Talks fell through, though, and Adams became even more disgruntled with his situation in New York.
