Report: Alvin Kamara to return to practice amid frustrating contract negotiations with Saints

Alvin Kamara's contract negotiations with the New Orleans Saints have been rough, but it appears things have finally calmed down.

After an extended absence from training camp, Kamara reportedly is set to return to the field and continue contract negotiations with the Saints, too, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The two sides aren't far apart in contract negotiations, Fowler adds, and Kamara isn't asking to be paid like Christian McCaffrey.

It was reported Tuesday by NFL reporter Josina Anderson that the Saints were open to trading the versatile running back, and four teams inquired about his services.

New Orleans has been discussing a new deal with Kamara throughout the summer, though it's not clear whether or not they've made him a solid offer yet. While he won't get McCaffrey money, which equals $16 million per year, the Saints will have to make him one of the NFL's highest-paid running backs if they want to retain him.

Since 2017, Kamara's 4,476 scrimmage yards ranks fifth in the NFL. Last season he rushed for 797 yards and five touchdowns while adding 533 yards and one touchdown receiving.

Kamara is set to earn $2.133 million this season on the final year of his rookie deal.
