Andy Reid updates Patrick Mahomes injury status

The Kansas City Chiefs were able to weather the storm of injuries to important players through the playoffs. Head coach Andy Reid provided an update recently on where Patrick Mahomes is ahead of spring OTAs. Mahomes sustained a high-ankle sprain against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. He’d play through the injury in the Super Bowl when he led the Chiefs to an incredible comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mahomes hoped to use the downtime after the Super Bowl to improving before offseason workouts. According to Christia Gonzales with the NFL Network, Reid said Mahomes is much better than where he was in February:

“He didn’t have to get anything done. He’s doing good, he feels good,” Reid said. “This time, he jumped right back into workouts and working the ankle, rehabbing the ankle. He’s lifting and running the parts that he could run, and he didn’t miss a beat on that.”

The Chiefs will need Mahomes to lead a young wide receiver corps after JuJu Smith-Schuster signed with the New England Patriots this offseason.
