Report: Andy Reid Won’t Contemplate Retirement From Kansas City Chiefs Until After Sunday’s Super Bowl
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Andy Reid’s decision on whether he will return to coach the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2024 season will not be made this weekend. The two-time Super Bowl-winning head coach answered yet another question about his potential retirement on Thursday.

Andy Reid is not retiring today

Reid was asked Tuesday at a press conference if he was ready to retire after the Super Bowl. Reid said he would know when it was his time to retire but that “today” was not the day.

Reid, now the oldest head coach in the NFL, has been the subject of several retirement rumors toward the latter half of the season. Questions about retirement have also surrounded his star tight end, Travis Kelce. So it comes as no surprise reporters at the press pool keep asking Reid about his retirement plans this week.

Reid isn’t retiring on Sunday, either

According to Pete Sweeney with Arrowhead Pride, Reid was asked Thursday morning about when he would possibly retire. Reid again iterated he would not retire “today.” He is too focused on the Super Bowl to think about retiring.

Reid won’t make his decision immediately following the Super Bowl, either.

“Andy Reid on the retirement question: “I haven’t gone there. I don’t think about that. I’m tied up in the game and trying to take care of that. I’m sure somewhere I’ll know when that time is.” The Chiefs’ head coach adds that it won’t be today… or on Sunday.”

The Kansas City Chiefs should have an answer next week for 2024

Nowhere in Reid’s comments is the head coach stating he will return to coach the Chiefs for the 2024 season. Reid has earned the right to take his time to enjoy a third Super Bowl win if the Chiefs beat the 49ers on Sunday.

Maybe we’ll get a clearer answer from Reid next week. Add quite possibly at a Super Bowl parade.
