Report: Baker Mayfield not a target for Panthers
The market for Baker Mayfield continues to shrink by the day. Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

The trade market for Baker Mayfield is almost nonexistent at this point, as even teams that have been linked to other quarterbacks seem to be shying away.

One such team reportedly does not have interest in Mayfield.

FOX Charlotte’s Will Kunkel reports that the Carolina Panthers do not have interest in a Mayfield trade. Their reported lack of interest in Mayfield comes in spite of the fact that the Panthers were among the teams most aggressive in pursuit of Deshaun Watson.

From Carolina’s standpoint, this makes sense. Last year, the Panthers took a chance on Sam Darnold, who was in the same draft class as Mayfield. That signing did not work out great. It’s tough to see the upside in bringing in another iffy quarterback in a contract year. Watson, however, was a clear upgrade Darnold or Mayfield, which helped fuel the team’s interest.

The Browns may have to accept that they will not be getting much for Mayfield in any trade. Part of that simply comes down to there not being many teams apparently interested in him.
