With Chicago Bears rookie mini camp in full swing, there are a lot of story lines to keep an eye on. Our friend, Samir Patel, did an incredible job covering all of those bases here. One of the notable stories to watch was the veteran tryouts.
On Saturday, a report from Adam Schefter indicates that the Bears have decided to sign one of those veterans. WR Scotty Miller appears to be joining the Bears on an undisclosed contract.
Miller spent last two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, serving as nothing more than a depth option. He totaled less than 200 total yards over the two seasons with the Steelers. However, his best career season came in 2020 with the Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where Miller spent time with current Bears assistant head coach Antwaan Randle El. The veteran status and familiarity with some of the team’s current coaching staff make this a comfortable signing.
In addition, this will be a homecoming for Miller. He is from Barrington, IL and now gets to play for his hometown team. Miller also played his college ball in the midwest, suiting up at Bowling Green.
With the latest addition, the receiver room is likely complete for now. The Bears will roll into the season with Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, Jahdae Walker, Kalif Raymond, Scotty Miller, and Zavion Thomas. This list does not include some practice squad players and undrafted free agents such as Squirrel White, JP Richardson, Maurice Alexander, and Omari Kelly.
