Report: Buccaneers not interested in trading for Teddy Bridgewater

The Panthers are allowing Teddy Bridgewater to seek out potential trade partners, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reportedly not on the list of teams interested in bringing in the veteran quarterback.

"While the Panthers reportedly are making QB Teddy Bridgewater available for a trade, the Bucs are not believed to be involved in any such efforts," tweeted Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud. "It’s more likely they re-sign veteran Blaine Gabbert."

Tampa Bay was one of the landing spots some expected for Bridgewater after he was reportedly among the team's backup plans if it was unable to sign Tom Brady last year. Obviously, the Bucs ended up with Brady, and with him signing an extension after winning his seventh Super Bowl, there's no reason for Tampa Bay to be too concerned about bringing in a backup.

Carolina is potentially open to keeping Bridgewater if he is unable to find an acceptable trade partner, but he is unlikely to see much time on the field after the Panthers traded a haul of picks to acquire Sam Darnold from the Jets earlier this week. Bridgewater is expected to generate interest from several teams as one of the few remaining starter-level quarterbacks available in free agency or through trade.
