Report: Buffalo Bills running back agrees to pay cut

The Buffalo Bills are working to keep a running back

The Buffalo Bills are working to keep a running back with the team next season. The Bills are trying to clear some cap space ahead of free agency this week. The team has a franchise quarterback in Josh Allen and a talented roster from last season that had a chance to make the AFC Championship Game. Those rosters come at a heavy price and are hard to keep from year to year.

According to Mike Garafolo with the NFL Network, the Bills are working to adjust running back Nyheim Hines’ contract by converting some of his base salary into a signing bonus. The move will give the Bills some wiggle room with the salary cap. Hines will then take a pay cut on the front end. However, he will have the chance to earn more than his previous contract if he achieves the incentives the Bills added.

The Bills need to be under the cap limit by the start of free agency to sign unrestricted free agents. According to Over The Cap, the Bills were over $19 million in the red as of Monday morning.
