Report: Chiefs Losing Nick Allegretti in Free Agency

After starting and winning Super Bowl LVIII at left guard, former Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Nick Allegretti has a new home, a multi-year deal, and a chance to start on an offensive line that already has a former Chiefs teammate.

Nick Allegretti is expected to sign a three-year, $16 million contract with the Washington Commanders, according to Ari Meirov. Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest reports that Allegretti is expected to be healthy and "a full go" for Commanders training camp.

Allegretti's injury came at a terrible time for the Chiefs, but fans didn't even know about the injury until after the game. Starting in place of injured guard Joe Thuney in Super Bowl LVIII, Allegretti tore his UCL in the second quarter. He played the entire game and helped anchor the Chiefs' offensive interior through the rest of the game, including overtime.

Allegretti now reunites with another versatile former Chief who got a chance at a starting spot: tackle Andrew Wylie. Wylie's first deal away from KC came from Washington, for three years and $24 million with $12 million guaranteed.

Earlier this month, Allegretti discussed his pending free agency on Good Morning Football, where he balanced his love of Kansas City with his desire to get a starting job opportunity.

"We're figuring that out as we go," Allegretti said. "I'm obviously allowed to talk with the Chiefs right now, and then the tampering window's coming up. It'll be interesting. It'll be a tough couple of weeks trying to make that decision because obviously, I love Kansas City, but I'm definitely looking for a place to go start [and] make my name as a full-time starter. The best thing about football, for me, as an offensive lineman is the option and the availability to go lead a group of men. That's one of my favorite parts about football, and the best way to do that is to be a starter day one. That's the opportunity I'm looking for — I want to go to an organization and have an impact as a player but have an impact in that locker room as a leader."

Now, after starting as a seventh-round pick in 2019 before going on to win three Super Bowls in Kansas City, Allegretti will have that opportunity to be a starter and a leader as a member of the Washington Commanders
