Santa Dak is arriving in 2025. Prescott and the Cowboys will reportedly be in action on Christmas Day against one of their more historic rivals, taking on the Commanders in Washington.
It’s been well over a decade since the Cowboys last played on Christmas Day, per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Now, we’ll see if they deliver a gift-wrapped win to their fanbase, or if coal is in their stocking, courtesy of Jayden Daniels and their NFC East rivals.
“JUST IN: The Dallas Cowboys will travel to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Commanders on Christmas Day,” Harris posted on X. “@kevinsheehanDC first. Dallas has played on Christmas Day five times in the team’s 64-year history (last in 2010).”
While the Commanders may seem daunting, the Cowboys actually played well against them last season, despite their various issues. They defeated them in Week 12 by eight, a game that was on the road for Dallas.
They fell to Washington in Week 18 though, as the Commanders got their lick back. Still, it was only a four-point loss for a Cowboys team decimated by injuries, among other things. A reloaded group with Prescott at the helm certainly won’t be backing down from the challenge, especially not on Christmas Day.
Meanwhile, a couple of other games have been announced for the Cowboys as well, ahead of the full release of their schedule later Wednesday evening. They’ll open the season at the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL’s first game of the season, and welcome the Kansas City Chiefs to Dallas on Thanksgiving Day, as well.
As is the standard, it’s a lot of Cowboys in primetime and of course, their annual Thanksgiving Day home game. It will be Dallas’ 58th game on Thanksgiving Day and it’s a marquee matchup against winners of three of the last six Super Bowls in the Chiefs.
But what will ultimately decide their fate is how they perform in those six divisional contests. The reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles remain loaded, while the Commanders are out to prove that last year’s run to the NFC Championship Game was no fluke. The Giants, meanwhile, continue to be in a rebuild of sorts, but the pressure is on to win games.
But if there’s one thing we know about the NFC East, expect chaos. There has not been a team win the division in back-to-back seasons since the Eagles from 2001-04. The Cowboys won this division in 2023, and they want the crown back in 2025.
