Report: Davante Adams wanted to play for new team

Is there anything the Green Bay Packers could have done to prevent Davante Adams from leaving? It sounds like the answer is no.

Adams on Thursday was traded by the Packers to the Las Vegas Raiders for a first and second-round pick in 2022. Las Vegas is making Adams the highest-paid receiver in NFL history with a 5-year, $141.25 million deal.

Though that is a lot of money, apparently it wasn’t too much money for Green Bay.

Packers reporter Rob Demovsky says the Packers were willing to match the Raiders’ contract offer for Adams. Demovsky says the issue is Adams preferred to play elsewhere.

Adams was a college teammate of Raiders quarterback Derek Carr at Fresno State. Adams also recently bought a home in Las Vegas. Plus, Carr openly talked last year about how badly he wanted Adams on the Raiders.

This trade does not seem to be rooted in an unwillingness from the Packers to pay Adams highly, but rather in Adams’ interest in playing in Las Vegas, and alongside his college teammate.
