Since being officially named minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders in October, many wondered how Tom Brady would impact the team during the offseason.

As it turns out, Brady’s influence was responsible for many of the biggest moves the Raiders made throughout the spring. Head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek came aboard in January, and both have repeatedly cited Brady as a reason why they came to Las Vegas. The legendary quarterback has also provided his input on the team’s quarterback situation, reportedly approving the trade with the Seattle Seahawks for Geno Smith and the drafting of Cam Miller in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Now, there is some more perspective on how Brady made such decisions possible.

A new report have come out around Brady and how his influence played a direct role for the Raiders.

In an article on Monday, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer highlighted two ways on how Brady directly affected the future of the Raiders, the first of which came in his pitches to Carroll, Spytek and even offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.

“Brady promised to coaching candidates in January that with the presence of his fellow new limited partners, whom he helped bring in, would materially change how the traditionally cash-poor Raiders would operate,” wrote Breer. “With Brady’s business partner Tom Wagner, Silver Lake CEO (and Manchester City board member) Egon Durban and Discovery Land founder Michael Meldman in the fold, the Raiders have delivered on that, maybe most notably in paying $6 million per year to pry offensive coordinator Chip Kelly from Ohio State.”

Opening the Raiders for business with top options like Carroll and Spytek seemed unlikely at first, but Brady took a gamble, hoping people would trust his reputation and keep him at his word. Fortunately, the risk paid off, and the Raiders have a strong regime now in place to turn the team’s fortune arounds.

This played directly into Breer’s second aspect of the impact of Brady on the team, bringing in players into the organization who are not only high on talent, but also in terms of character.

“It’s well-established that Brady’s priority would be bringing in players of high football character, who have the kind of competitive edge and work ethic that Brady did,” Breer explained. “That meshes with Carroll and Spyek’s beliefs, which helps color the decisions to hire them, and it was all over the Raiders’ draft class.”

While this belief did cause some controversy, especially in regards to a Brady protege in Shedeur Sanders, the Raiders were widely regarded as one of the teams with the best draft classes this year.

Brady is a busy man this offseason, but his work has played a direct role in getting the Raiders to where they are now.
