REPORT: Dolphins Telling Teams They Aren’t Trading Achane
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports this morning that teams have called the Miami Dolphins about De’Von Achane and have been informed he is not available via trade.
Many will read into that as face value that he will not be traded; others believe this is mind games by Jon-Eric Sullivan to help drive up the asking price for Achane to see if he can get a team to overpay.
It was at the combine less than a month ago that Sullivan said he wasn’t looking to trade Jaylen Waddle and De’Von Achane, but he would listen to offers.
And a few weeks later, Waddle was traded.
So, Sullivan saying something doesn’t mean it is etched in stone; in fact, this report tells me it is just a public statement that he hasn’t received an offer good enough yet to trade Achane.
And he is floating it out there through Adam Schefter to let the NFL world know that, so, up your offers.
We all can see the Dolphins are tearing this roster down to the studs and starting over in a full-blown rebuild.
With 7 draft picks in the Top 100 currently, Miami could most definitely get a 1st or a 2nd round pick (and probably an additional pick) for Achane in any deal.
Factor in that the one and only position Miami has depth at currently is running back, with Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon behind Achane; to think he wouldn’t be on the table is hard to believe.
Also, it is worth noting that organizations often use the media to get a message out there and float stories to drum up interest.
If a team believes a player isn’t available via trade, it may make a team want that player more and offer more in a trade.

De’Von Achane was voted to his first Pro Bowl this past season, where he had a career year in production.
Achane ran for 1,350 yards in 16 games and had eight rushing touchdowns. He also led the NFL, averaging 5.7 YPC this past season.
He also had 67 receptions for 488 yards and four receiving touchdowns, cementing himself as Miami’s best offensive player in 2025.
Many expect Achane to sign a contract similar to what James Cook got in Buffalo last offseason, in the neighborhood of four years for $48 million with $30 million guaranteed.
It is expected that if Achane doesn’t get a contract extension before training camp, he will hold out all of training camp via a “sit-in” (where he shows up but doesn’t participate in any drills to avoid being fined).
