Joe Judge first worked for the New England Patriots as an assistant special teams coach in 2012 and mostly dealt with that portion of the roster throughout his tenure until the New York Giants hired him as head coach in January 2020. Judge underwhelmed with Big Blue and was fired last month after he posted a record of 10-23 across two seasons, and he returned to the Patriots in an unspecified offensive assistant role roughly two weeks ago.
There's now more information on what the 40-year-old will be doing for his new employer.
Per Albert Breer of SI.com, Judge will work with the New England quarterbacks moving forward. Additionally, former Detroit Lions head coach and current Patriots advisor Matt Patricia is set to help with the club's offensive line.
Without Judge's guidance, first-round draft pick Mac Jones evolved into a Rookie of the Year candidate serving as New England's starting quarterback during his debut season. According to ESPN stats, Jones finished the campaign 15th among eligible signal-callers with a 92.5 passer rating and 16th with a 50.9 total QBR. He passed for 3,801 yards with 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
