Former Raiders first-round pick reportedly arrested for meth possession and unlawful carrying of a firearm
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

On Monday, a former highly touted Las Vegas Raiders cornerback made the news for a recent run-in with the law. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, 2020 first-round pick Damon Arnette was arrested and charged last month for “possession of less than a gram of meth and unlawful carrying of a firearm.” The arrest occurred at 3:30 am in Richardson, Texas.

Damon Arnette: Another Run-In with the Law

Monday’s report of Arnette’s arrest is not the first time the former Ohio State Buckeyes product has had legal issues. Arnette’s legal problems began in 2021 when he became a suspect in a hit-and-run revolving around an accident the year prior. A video surfaced the same year of Arnette making death threats while brandishing a weapon on social media. The Las Vegas Raiders cut him shortly after, ending his brief two-year stint with the franchise.

In 2022, the Texas native was arrested for “charges of assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, and two counts of possession of controlled substances.” Arnette entered a plea deal, avoiding incarceration, but had to pay a $2,000 fine and complete 50 hours of community service. He was again arrested later that year and charged with “possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving on a suspended license.”

Las Vegas Raiders: Little Production from Damon Arnette

Arnette played only two seasons with the Raiders before his legal issues and eventual release. The former second-team Big Ten cornerback posted 25 tackles, one TFL, and two passes defended in nine games as a rookie. He appeared in four games the following season, posting four tackles and a PBU. The Raiders released him that same year. He landed with the Miami Dolphins shortly after but never made the active roster. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, which lasted only a week.

Arnette played collegiately at Ohio State, tallying five interceptions in four years. He also accumulated 140 tackles, 22 passes defended, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery during his tenure with the Buckeyes.
