REPORT: Geno Smith‘s Preferred Destination is Miami

NFL reporter Connor Hughes of SNY, who covers the NY Jets and NY Giants, reports that soon-to-be free agent quarterback Geno Smith‘s preferred destination is Miami, and he would like to join the Dolphins.

Smith was born and raised in Miramar, FL, in Broward County.

There has been a lot of chatter over the past few weeks that Geno Smith and the Jets may have a reunion, and that the Jets are interested in signing the soon-to-be free agent as a bridge quarterback for them in 2026.

Geno was a former 2nd-round pick of the Jets in 2013.

Geno Smith is 35 years old and will be 36 in October.

And because Geno Smith is owed money by the Raiders, he will most likely sign for the veteran minimum of $1.3 million with any team that signs him.

Which, for the Dolphins and their salary cap situation, would be enticing: getting a quarterback of his caliber at such a low price.

Geno has played for the Jets, Giants, Chargers, Seahawks, and Raiders during his NFL career.

Geno Smith has played in 109 NFL games, starting 98.

In games he has started, his team has a 42-56 record.

Last season in Las Vegas, Smith started and played in 15 games; the Raiders had a 2-13 record when he started.

He threw 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, and had a 67.4% completion percentage while he was surrounded by a poor roster.

In 2024 in Seattle, Geno started all 17 games, and the Seahawks were 10-7 that season.

He threw 21 touchdowns and 15 interceptions that season.

Multiple reports have said the Dolphins want to bring in a veteran quarterback to compete with Quinn Ewers this year.

Geno Smith checks a lot of boxes of what the Dolphins are looking for, in that he wouldn’t be expensive, has a wealth of experience, and can be that one-year bridge quarterback in 2026 as the Dolphins search for their long-term answer at quarterback, which will most likely come in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Other players, such as Kyler Murray, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Malik Willis, have been linked to Miami.

So, it will be interesting to see how the new GM, Jon-Eric Sullivan, addresses this position.
